I'm a very pale person that spends a lot of time outside. As a result I wear a lot of sunscreen, so when my friend posted the following on facebook (and in subsequent research, I found it posted in /r/alternativehealth), I became intrigued.

I'm fairly skeptical of the entire article, and can find flaws at a surface level, such as her claim that the body absorbs vitamin D when we synthesis it, but I can't get much deeper than that with my limited knowledge.

Simply put: Many of these so-called bible study clubs and other religious initiatives are not what they say they are. They have an agenda far more sweeping, and potentially threatening to public education, than they let on. The biggest factor driving this insertion of religion into public schools is judicial activism from the right. I know these are bold claims. Some people will say they’re alarmist. I have learned firsthand that they aren’t.

It is not too often that I focus on writing articles which include my own personal perspective. I have made a great effort to look at the subjects that I post on here with the most objective eye as possible by utilizing all of the critical thinking, scientific, and skeptical skills that I have learned through both my formal and personal education. When it comes to Native American culture and beliefs I want to show ultimate respect by depicting them, not as I view them, but as closely to how they were depicted by those tribes practicing them. In most cases, my point of view is not relevant to those types of historical and cultural accounts, so it doesn't get included and is normally weeded out. It’s graduation season and I recently went to Tucson to attend my brother’s graduation from the civil engineering program at the University of Arizona. I am so proud of him for making it successfully to graduation and know he’s going to have a bright future as a civil engineer. However, at his college graduation ceremony I noticed something particularly disturbing. There were 32 undergraduates obtaining their civil engineering bachelor degrees and another 18 getting either a masters or PhD. All of these students were men. Let me repeat that: The University of Arizona awarded 50 students degrees in civil engineering this year and not one went to a woman. I took to twitter during the ceremony to tweet to @azengineering to find out if they have any plans for recruitment programs aimed at women. I did not receive a response from them, but I did get responses from others on twitter saying they believed that the college shouldn’t do anything special to encourage women in engineering because
